Windshield Replacement

When a chip has spread, reached the edge, or sits in the driver's sightline, the glass has to come out. A windshield is a structural part of your vehicle — it carries roof load in a rollover and it is what the passenger airbag pushes against — so how it is fitted matters as much as what is fitted.

How we do it

  1. We confirm the exact glass for your vehicle. Same model year can take several different windshields depending on rain sensors, heating elements, acoustic interlayers and camera mounts.
  2. The old unit comes out and the pinch weld is cleaned back and primed. Skipping this is where rust and future leaks come from.
  3. The new glass is set in fresh urethane and left to cure.
  4. Where the vehicle needs it, the forward-facing camera is recalibrated.

We will give you a safe drive-away time when you collect the vehicle. It is not a formality — the adhesive has to reach strength before the glass can do its structural job.

OEM or aftermarket?

Both are available and both are legal. OEM glass carries the vehicle manufacturer's branding and specification. Quality aftermarket glass from a reputable maker meets the same safety standards and costs less. Which one makes sense depends on your vehicle, your insurer and whether the car is under warranty or lease. We will lay out the difference and the price of each, and you choose.

Driver assistance cameras

If your vehicle has lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control or automatic emergency braking, there is a camera behind the windshield that has to be recalibrated once the glass is replaced. A camera aimed a fraction of a degree off will read lane markings and following distance incorrectly. It is not optional, and any shop telling you otherwise is cutting a corner you cannot see.

CONFIRM WITH CLIENT: Is ADAS recalibration carried out in-house, sublet to a partner, or referred out? This is the highest-value question on the whole site — the answer changes this section and the homepage.

Insurance

Most replacements go through comprehensive coverage. We bill the insurer directly on the majority of Ontario policies, so there is usually nothing to pay up front beyond your deductible. Bring the claim number if you have one; if you do not, we can help you open the claim. More on claims.
