A stone chip is the cheapest problem your windshield will ever have. Left alone through a Georgian Bay winter, the temperature swing between a frozen night and a defroster on full will turn it into a crack — and a crack means a new windshield.
What a repair involves
We draw the air out of the break, inject a clear resin into the void, and cure it. It takes about twenty minutes. The chip stops spreading, the structural integrity of the glass is restored, and the damage becomes much harder to see — though on a deep break you may still catch a faint mark in the right light. Anyone who promises an invisible repair is overselling it.
Can yours be repaired?
As a rule of thumb, we can repair it if:
- The chip is smaller than a toonie, or the crack is shorter than about six inches
- It is not directly in the driver's line of sight
- It has not reached the edge of the glass
- The inner layer of the laminate is intact
